Minutes of the regular
meeting of June 11, 2008. Mr. Kriner called the meeting to order.
Members present: Sandra Husman, Patrick
Kriner, Mayor Craig Stough (3) present.
Mary Westphal (1) excused. Mr. Robert Oberly present.
Ms. Husman moved,
Mayor Stough seconded to approve the Minutes of the May 14, 2008, meeting as
submitted. Vote being: Kriner, Stough,
Husman (3) aye; (0) nay. Motion passed by a 3 to 0 vote.

3 - Regulated Sign - app. no. 15-2008 requested by Toledo Sign for The Rock
Garden, 5665 Main Street,
Sylvania. Mr. Brian Heil present.
They plan to install a small projecting wooden sign, non
illuminated, that will be suspended from a metal bracket. The sign will be at least eight feet above
the sidewalk. Ms. Husman moved, Mayor
Stough seconded to give a Certificate of Appropriateness for the new sign for
The Rock Garden, 5665 Main Street
as depicted in app. no. 15-2008 provided the sign is installed the same height
from the sidewalk as the adjacent sign for Main Street Hair Salon. Vote being: Stough, Husman, Kriner (3) aye;
(0) nay. Motion passed by a 3 to 0 vote.

4 - Regulated District - app. nos. 16-2008 and 17-2008 requested by Kevin
Carroll for West Carroll Architecture, 6635 Erie Street, Sylvania. Mr. Kevin Carroll present. He is trying to upgrade his building. He wants to replace the latticework on three
sides of the porch to straight wooden slats in frames to be painted the same
blue as the foundation. The third floor
window will be replaced with a mullion six light window, and it will have a
matching screen. The new windows will
match the other windows in the building.
Mayor Stough mentioned this will improve the appearance of the
building. Mayor Stough moved, Ms. Husman seconded to grant a Certificate of
Appropriateness for app. no. 16-2008 for West Carroll Architecture, 6635 Erie Street,
the new windows and the replacement for the latticework under the porch. Vote being: Husman, Kriner, Stough (3) aye;
(0) nay. Motion passed by a 3 to 0 vote. Mr. Carroll stated that he is asking for
forgiveness rather than permission for painting the building foundation and
fence. He painted it blue to give some
relief from all the white. The blue is a
color from the historic pallette. Ms. Human moved,
Mayor Stough seconded to grant a Certificate of Appropriateness, in spite of
the delay, for the painting of the fence and the lower portion of building as
shown in the pictures submitted with app. no. 17-2008 for West Carroll
Architecture, 6635 Erie Street. Vote being: Kriner, Husman, Stough (3) aye;
(0) nay. Motion passed by a 3 to 0 vote.

5 - Regulated Sign - app. no. 18-2008 requested by Husam
Muhsen for Masjid Saad Foundation,
AMSF,@ 5225 Alexis Road, Sylvania.
Mayor Stough mentioned that the city will be
installing school zone flashers on Alexis
Road and also other school zones in the city. The proposed sign is an improvement on the
existing pole sign. The message board
portion needs to follow the ordinance concerning no flashing lights and the
message being on a minimum of three seconds.
Ms. Husman moved, Mayor Stough seconded to give a Certificate of
Appropriateness for the new sign for Masjid Saad Foundation,
AMSF,@ 5225 Alexis Road, as depicted in the
drawing submitted with app. no. 18-2008 subject to the Board of Architectural
Review=s approval of the color sample for the
stucco monument sign to blend with the exterior color of the building. Vote being: Husman, Kriner, Stough (3) aye;
(0) nay. Motion passed by a 3 to 0 vote.
Ms. Husman moved,
Mayor Stough seconded to adjourn the meeting.
