"Storm Damage Cleanup"

Two storm fronts moved through Sylvania on June 6th and June 9th knocking down many tree limbs and causing numerous electrical power outages.

The City of Sylvania immediately dispatched crews to clear the roads and collect the storm damaged tree limbs.  Forestry crews are working overtime to move through the City and collect the storm damage tree debris.

Storm damage was extensive in some areas of the City, necessitating the hiring of private contractors to assist the city crews in their work.  Batanian Tree Service and Aaron Tree and Lawn were authorized by the Forestry superintendent to begin assisting with storm cleanup beginning June 10th.

City residents are requested to bring downed tree limbs to the curb and cut them into stacks of manageable pieces.  The City will not be cutting up large limbs, but will chip and load limbs and branches stacked at the curb.

Many of the power outages were caused by heavy limbs blowing into and knocking down power lines.  Toledo Edison periodically trims trees in the Sylvania community and the City often receives complaints about their trimming, but based on the number of power outages during the recent storms, more work may be needed.  My neighborhood in Lincoln Woods was out for 23 hours following the first storm and 9 hours following the second storm.

The City Forestry Division already had a free green waste pickup scheduled for the weeks of June 9th and June 16th, and will still be picking up on your regular collection days.  As always, thanks for your patience as the City works to clean up the storm damage and maintain regular green waste recycling pickups.
