| The Division of Zoning issues Zoning Permits for new dwellings, additions,
accessory buildings, remodeling existing buildings, swimming pools, signs, commercial
building remodeling, etc. A Zoning Permit is required before an applicant can
obtain a Building Permit from Lucas County Building Regulations. Applications for
construction or remodeling of commercial buildings and apartments also need to have the
Fire Department review their plans before a Zoning Permit can be issued. The Zoning Administrator makes a visual inspection concerning any complaints that are received, and he tries to talk to the residents in an attempt to resolve the complaint. If the complaint cannot be resolved and there is a violation of the Codified Ordinances, the property owners are so notified by Certified Mail. Follow up inspections are also made to insure compliance with orders. Sidewalk Permits for the construction of public sidewalks and driveway approaches can be obtained in the Zoning Office. The office also oversees applications for Sidewalk Contractor Licenses and Sewer Tapper Licenses, and maintains current lists of licensed contractors. The Secretary of the Division, Barbara Taylor, is also the Secretary of the Sylvania Municipal Planning Commission, the Board of Architectural Review, and the Board of Zoning Appeals. The Secretary is responsible for setting the agendas for the meetings, maintaining minutes of proceedings, and maintaining the records of these bodies. The Division also answers calls concerning refuse collection, and passes on all complaints to the refuse contractor.
