Chief of Police
The City of Sylvania is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police. Located in northwestern Ohio, Sylvania has a residential population of 19,000 residents and covers approximately 6.5 square miles. The Division of Police has a staff of 34 uniformed officers, 6 dispatchers, and 1 full-time administrative support civilian. The police department budget for calendar year 2018 is approximately $4.9 million.
- Candidates must have demonstrated skills in these five areas: leadership, communication, management, budgeting and community relations.
- Candidates must have achieved the rank of Sergeant or above for at least four years with a minimum of eight years of responsible police management experience.
- A Bachelor degree or above in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Political Science or a similar field related to law enforcement
- Candidates must be OPOTA certified at the time of application.
